What this page is
Spin Wheel is an OBS overlay with lots of your own: dares, prizes, games, anything you type in. It spins by itself a few seconds after its scene goes live and stops on one lot. It comes in three formats: a Wheel, a Card strip that slides past a pointer, and Slots, several reels that stop one after another like a slot machine. It has nothing to do with the auction: there are no bids and no auction to run. The page lives at Widgets → Spin Wheel.
How to set it up
- The page opens on the list of widgets. Each widget has its own format, lots, timing, colours, sounds and its own link. A row shows the On air switch, the name, a summary (the format first, then Lots, Delay and Spin) and the buttons Copy link, Duplicate, Delete and Configure.
- Create widget asks for the format first: Wheel, Card strip or Slots, each with a line about what it does. Pick one and press Create. You can change the format later in Format in the settings; lots, timing and sounds carry over, and every format keeps its own look.
- Configure opens the settings in three columns: sections on the left, the preview in the middle, the fields on the right. Nothing is written until you press Save Settings in the header, and Back to list asks first if something is unsaved.
- Lots. Each lot has a name, a Weight, a switch and a delete button; drag the grip on the left to reorder, or use the up and down arrow keys on it. Weight sets the chance: a lot with weight 2 comes up twice as often as a lot with weight 1, and on the wheel its sector is twice as wide. The chance in percent is shown next to the weight. A new widget starts with six lots, "1" to "6", so it spins straight away. Add lot adds one more.
- Spin. Delay after going live is 3 seconds to begin with; 0 means at once. Spin time is either Always the same with Spin duration (6 seconds to begin with) or Random within a range with From and To (4 to 10 seconds). For slots there is also Pause between reel stops, 1 second to begin with: the first reel stops at the spin time and each next one after this pause; 0 stops them all at once.
- Sector colors (Card colors for the strip and slots) has five ways to colour the lots in Coloring: Auto, Each lot its own color (the colour is then picked with the circle next to each lot in Lots), Two colors, Shades of one color and Rainbow.
- Sounds. A click and a sound for the stop, plus Volume. On the wheel the click plays as sectors pass the pointer, on the strip as cards pass it, on the slots when each reel stops. No sound plays until you pick one. The sound plays inside the OBS browser source, so leave Control audio via OBS checked on that source.
- Wheel and Sector labels (the wheel), Strip and Cards (the card strip), Reels and Cards (the slots) hold the look of the figure. Edge padding with Top and bottom and Left and right keeps space between the source edges and the figure, so a glow or an outline effect is not cut off.
- Pictures on cards (strip and slots). Under each lot in Lots there is an image slot: the window opens any folder on your computer and copies the file into the app. In Cards, Lot name on the card puts the name Over the image, Under the image or nowhere (No name). A card without a picture shows its name in the middle. The wheel has no pictures.
- Slots only, in Reels. Number of reels is 3, 4 or 5. Repeats decides how often one lot may show: Unlimited (the reels are independent and all of them can match), No repeats, or Up to 2 of a kind and up from there. With too few lots for the limit, a note under the list says that some lots will repeat more. When every reel lands on the same lot, the machine pulses in that lot's colour.
- Slots only: each reel its own list. In Reels, set Lots on the reels to Each reel has its own lots. Lots then shows a tab per reel (Reel 1, Reel 2 and so on), each with its own list and a field Name above the reel, for example "Where", "What" and "How many times". The names show above the reels in OBS if at least one is filled in; their look is under Reel names in Reels. The result reads as one phrase from left to right. Repeats and the pulsing machine do not apply here, because the lists are different. A reel with no lots switched on stays empty and is left out of the result. Switching back to Same lots on every reel brings the shared list back untouched.
- Result. The plaque under the figure shows what came up; it can be switched off. Caption above the lot is your own line over the lot name; left empty, it reads "Result" in the language of the app. Material dresses the plaque in one of the themes and adds an outline effect around the figure.
- Test spin above the preview spins the preview with your unsaved settings and sounds. It never reaches the stream.
- Press Copy link, in the row or in the settings header, and paste the address into a Browser Source in OBS. The guide "Overlays in OBS" explains the source itself.
When it spins
- When its scene goes live. OBS tells the overlay that its source is on air, and after the delay it spins once. To spin again, hide the source and show it again, or switch away from the scene and back.
- In studio mode it waits for the transition to the programme, not for the preview.
- When OBS starts, a source that is visible anywhere counts as live: in the studio mode preview, in a projector or in the multiview. It may spin there once and then spins again when the scene really goes live.
- The result stays on the plaque until the source leaves the live scene or the widget is switched off.
- One link in two places shows the same result in both. A copy that already stopped is not spun again by the other one, so opening the link in a browser to check it does not reroll the one on stream.
- Settings changed while it spins or holds a result apply the next time the source is shown, so the plaque and the figure never disagree. Colours and fonts apply at once.
What it cannot do
- There is no spin button for the stream, no chat command and no spin on a donation: a widget spins only when its scene goes live. Test spin is for the preview only.
- Viewers cannot bet channel points or anything else on it, and it keeps no history of results.
- The wheel has no pictures; pictures are for the card strip and the slots.
- Weight cannot be zero: to take a lot out of play, use its switch.
- After the add-on updates, an open source in OBS keeps the previous version until you refresh it in OBS.
- The overlay is drawn only inside its own Browser Source; where it sits in the scene and how big it is are set in OBS.
