Adding and importing donations

What this is

Money does not always come through a connected service: a viewer sends it to you directly, hands you cash, or the service loses a donation. Add donation writes such a donation into Statistics by hand, and Import from file brings in a donation history exported from DonationAlerts or DonatePay. Both buttons sit on the Data tab of Statistics, beside the filter chips.

How to set it up

  1. Add donation opens the Add a donation window. It asks for the Service (your installed donation services, or Other: card, cash, transfer), the Donor (left empty, it is Anonymous), the Amount and Currency (your base currency comes first), the Date and time (now, unless you change it; a date in the future is refused) and an optional Message. Add saves it, and on Data its row says "added manually". The donation lands on the card of the stream that was running at that time; outside any stream it is on no card but still counts in the tops.
  2. Under the fields is Count as a live donation, unticked. Unticked, the hint reads "Goes into statistics and donor tops only. Alerts stay quiet." Ticked, the donation goes out as if it had just arrived: "Counts as a new donation: the alert, voice and scenarios react to it, the chat bot replies in chat, and goals, the carousel, the auction and the timer count it." Tick it for money that should play on screen now, and leave it off for history.
  3. The same window opens from the + in the header of the Stream: Events tile on the Control Panel, so a donation can be added mid-stream without leaving the panel. The button is there while that tile shows donations.
  4. Import from file takes an export from DonationAlerts (an .xls file) or DonatePay (an .xlsx file); pointing at the button says the same. Download the export from that service's own dashboard first, then press the button and pick the file in the window that opens. Nothing is written yet: Import from {service} shows the file name, how many donations are new with the first rows of them, how many are already in statistics, and the rows it skipped with the reason, such as a payment that was not completed. Import writes the new ones and reports "Donations added: {count}."; Cancel writes nothing. A long history takes a few minutes, and the window stays open until it is done.
  5. Imported donations go into the stream totals, Top donators and the top donors lists in OBS. They play no alerts and do not touch goals, the carousel or the auction: this is history, not new money. Importing the same file twice adds nothing the second time. A donation the app already caught live is recognized and not doubled, and so is one you added by hand under that service with the same donor, amount and currency within a day of it: the import takes it over instead of adding a second copy.
  6. A donation added by hand or imported is deleted like any other record: point at its row in Data and press ✕. One that was imported, or added without Count as a live donation, never counted towards goals, the carousel or the auction, so deleting it takes nothing away from them. One added as live gives back what it gave.
